7 Tips for House Renovation by JTValero

April  and May are months for festivals, fiestas and  events among the local Barangays of Visayas.  These are also the best time for  renovations, reconstructions and beautification of our houses, offices and business establishments.

Let me tell you  a  story about my Mom. She was a pubic school teacher. Whenever the school year was about to end, she would start planning  about  renovating our house.  She  wouldn’t  consult anyone. She would decide  anything from architectural to  giving instructions to the laborer and even bought the materials all by herself.

Her  “know-it-all” attitude  did not help the renovation project in particular because she would dismiss our  every opinion and  kept uttering these words:  “inato ra bitaw ni” “ok nana basta barato lang” or “temporary ra bitaw ni“.

As a consequence, all  of us suffered     about poor quality of the job and wrong decisions she  had made.  Now that  I have my own renovation contractor  business  operating for almost 4 years now,   I still encounter difficult clients  with resemblance to my Mom’s attitude .  The worst-case scenario  happened  during  on going projects  wherein marital disagreements arose from choosing  petty  paint color  of the wall  to  deciding where to put the outlet for the TV.

The  story I just narrated simply happened due to lack of planning.  As what  Benjamin Franklin said “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”

In order to minimize this situation I gathered some tips for  your reference.

  1. Have a Plan –  Plan together both husband and wife best time to talk is in dining table or before going to bed. If you have a teenager then ask their opinion be open minded I know and you know that they are still young and they don’t have any experience yet but they have a fresh and better idea than their parents. Include in your plan which is the priority.
  2. Research – Utilize google.
  3. Set a Budget – Come up with a certain budget and focus  on it.
  4. Hire a Renovation Contractor – Send message of course to JTValero Electrical Services or email us  at jtvaleroelectrical@gmail.com. Present your plan. We’ll give the reasonable quote that fits your budget.
  5. Pack your Valuables – While the renovation is on going, keep your important valuables to avoid mess.
  6. Prepare a storage room/space for Materials – A separate room or space  enables you to locate all the materials needed.
  7. Be a Good Boss – The most important thing you can do during a remodeling project, other than write checks, is treat your contractor well. Good communication is the key to quality project.
